Academic activities of government primary, registered and community schools in the South Sunamganj Upazilla are being hampered seriously due to shortage of teachers.
Sources said, at least 91 posts of teachers have been lying vacant in primary schools of the Upazilla.
Despite acute shortage of teachers, the government appears to be reluctant to fill up the posts lying vacant for long, local people alleged.
Besides, a good number of children remained deprived of the light of education due to lack of primary schools in many remote villages in the division.
There are 97 primary schools in South Sunamganj Upazilla in the District.
According to district education officials, some 53 primary teachers are now working against the total posts of 91 in the Upazilla.
