Two people were killed and at least 35 injured in a clash between two rival groups a Peerpur village in Chhatak upazila on Friday afternoon.
The dead were identified as Kabir Ahmed, 40, and Botu Mia, 45, of the village.
Witnesses said Kabir Ahmed and Botu Mia’s brother Selim Ahmed had long been at loggerhead.
As a sequel to the previous enmity, Kabir and Selim locked into an altercation at 12 noon. Later, their supporters clashed at about 1pm, leaving 37 from both groups were injured.
Of them, Kabir and Botu were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmany Medical College Hospital (SOMCH)where doctors declared them dead.
The injured were admitted to the SOMCH and local hospitals.
