A divisional tribunal here on Monday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment and another to one year’s jail for killing a young man in 2011.
The lifer was identified as Sayed Abdul Kahar, son of late Sayed Cherag Ali of Sayedpur Goalgaon in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district.
The court also fined him Tk10,000, in default, to suffer one year more of rigorous imprisonment.
Another convict who was awarded one year jail is Sayed Badshah Miah, a resident of the same village.
He was also fined Tk1000, in default, to suffer one month more of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Sayed Abdul Ali,28, a resident of Sayedpur Goalgaon in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj, had an enmity with the convicts of the same village.
As a sequel to the enmity, the convicts attacked Ali on November 11, 2011.
At one stage, they beat Ali mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
Sayed Hasan Miah, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case.
Police submitted charge sheet against 11 people, including the duo, on December 9, 2014.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Sylhet Speedy Tribunal Makbul Ahsan handed down the verdict acquitting nineaccused as charges brought against them could not be proved.
