Public Administration Minister and Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Wednesday hoped that one day all, including Alwami League and BNP, will pay tributes to Bangabandhu altogether.
“In India, Pakistan and the USA, there is no debate about Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and George Washington. The day will come when general secretaries of Awami Leauge, BNP, Communist Party, Prime Minister and the opposition leader will pay tributes together to Bangabandhu,” he said.
Syed Ashraf was speaking at a discussion meeting on Mourning Day at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital, UNB reports.
The minister said the Father of the Nation belongs to all political parties, organizations and citizens. “This is why this year we tried to observe the Mourning Day with the participation of all,” he said.
“We’ve noticed that many organisations observed Mourning Day this year who had never observed the day earlier and many people also joined Mourning Day programs this year,” said the minister, adding, “We’ve disgraced ourselves by dividing Bangabandhu. He is unanimous.”
Ex-health Minister AFM Ruhul Haque also spoke at the programme held with BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan in the chair.
