Tarana Halim, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications, on Wednesday said the re-registration of SIMs will start on Sunday (Sept 13) and continue till December 13.
The junior minister said this while talking to reporters after a views-exchange meeting with Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) at the Secretariat.
Tarana said those who had earlier properly registered their SIMs will have to re-register their SIMs for verification.
If anyone fails to re-registrar their SIMs then their SIMs will be made inactive temporarily and then become inactive permanently, she said.
The process of re-registration of SIMs will be made public through media on September 13.
On Tuesday, the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry said all the mobile phone subscribers must re-register their SIMs within three months.
The directive came a day after the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman’s clarification that only the fake and flawed SIMs need to be re-registered.
The ministry also said the dealers who sell SIMs of different mobile operators also must have registration.
