JL leader held over Class-V student rape

Police held a local Jubo League (JL) leader allegedly for raping a class-V student in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj.
The arrestee Shamsul Mia Chowdhury, 32, is a vice-president of Kagapasha Union unit Jubo League, said Nirmolendu Chakrabarti, officer-in-charge of Baniachong Police Station.
Shamsul allegedly raped the girl when she was sleeping at her house last night, the police official said quoting the family members.
Hearing the girl’s screams, her mother called for help. Their neighbours saved the girl.
Police arrested Shamsul around 2:00 pm today, hours after the victim’s mother filed a case with Baniachong Police Station, the OC said.
The victim is now undergoing treatment at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, he added.
