SC stays HC ban on Rana Plaza film screening

45The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed a six-month High Court ban on the screening of Rana Plaza, a movie based on the 2013 collapse of a building of the same name in Savar.
A bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha gave the order on Monday.
On August 24, the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam, in response to a writ petition, ruled that the film could not be screened for six months.
The bench also stayed the movie’s clearance, issued by the censor board, for the same period.
More than 1,100 people died and scores more injured when the multistory building housing several garment factories crumbled on the morning of April 24, 2013.
