AL, BNP men operate illegal cattle markets in Sylhet

41The ruling party Awami League (AL) men have set up makeshift cattle markets in the city areas without the permission of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC). They have been operating over 10 markets in different open places and roadside spaces since Monday. In some cases, BNP men are engaged in collecting illegal toll in different places.
Besides, the operators erected arches at the entrance and are forcibly taking the cattle-laden trucks to their markets while police are playing the role of silent spectators.
They were seen using loudspeakers to woo the customers in some places on Tuesday.
Sadar Upazila Parishad gave permission to set up the markets at Suburban Lakkatoora on the Airport Road, Shahporan Majar gate, Evergreen playground and Mirapara cattle market.
The illegal markets have been established in the city’s Masimpur Koyedir Math, Shahi Eidgah playground, MC College playground, Uposhahar Sonarpara, Bagbari, Masimpur Jalalabad Gas Road and Babna point.
Sramik League leaders  Abul Kaher Iju and Shamim Iqbal, ward AL General Secretary Zabed Siraj,  City Jubo League joint convener Mushfik Zaigirder have set up these markets while Anwaruzzaman and his men have established the Koyedir Math market, locals and cattle traders alleged.
JCD leader Shah Saidur Rahman Hiru and trader Main Khan Bablu are doing the same jobs.
