Mohsin Ali’s widow endorsed as by-poll candidate

The widow of Syed Mohsin Ali will contest for the Moulvibazar 3 seat that was left vacant following the former social welfare minister’s death, a faction of Moulvibazar district Awami League has announced.
A joint extended meeting of Moulvibazar sadar upazila unit and Moulvibazar municipal unit of the Awami League made the decision on Thursday. The faction that was previously led by Mohsin backed the candidature of Syeda Saira Mohsin, the widow, for the upcoming by-election in the Moulvibazar 3 constituency that covers the Sadar and Rajnagar upazilas.
However, the district Awami League has another faction jointly led by former chief whip and district AL President MA Shahid and General Secretary Nesar Ahmed.
Other potential candidates who are likely to seek the ruling party’s nomination for the by-poll include Nesar Ahmed, Moulvibazar Zila Parishad Administrator Md Azizur Rahman, central AL leader and former police DIG Syed Bazlul Karim, Moulvibazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Kamal Ahmed and Awami Swechchhasebak League Central Organising Secretary Subrata Purkayastha
