Durga Puja preparation progresses in Sylhet Division

36Preparations for celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, are progressing fast throughout the Sylhet Division. The festival will begin on October 19 and conclude on Octber 22 through the immersion of idols in rivers.
about 2404 puja mandaps have been set up for the big celebration in the Sylhet Division. Sculptors are passing very busy time in 39 upazilas to give the final touches on Goddess Durga and other idols.
Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Porished, Advocate Mirtun joy Dor Bula said people of all religion will enjoy the occasion in harmony. He also said this year Durga Puja is going to be celebrated at 2404 puja mandaps in the Sylhet Division.He, however, said the number of puja mandaps has fallen 29 this year.
Artist Kumar Gonesh said: “Now, we are busy painting the idols.” He said this year prices of all kinds of idol making materials have increased affecting the celebration.
President of Sylhet sadar upazila Puja Udjapan Committee said last year, every puja temple received 500 kilogram rice as government donation on such occasion.
DIG of Sylhet Range Mizanur Rahman said extra security measures will be taken for the protection of puja mandaps and the viewers.
Police said special security measures will be taken in and around all the puja mandaps of the district to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the smooth holding of the festival. This year, 2404 Puja mandops would be set up in the Sylhet Division. District wise Durga Puja would also be celebrated at 583 mandops in Sylhet 905 in Moulobibazar,  316 in Sunamgonj , 600 in Hobigonj District.
