A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was injured in a clash between two factions of BCL on Sylhet Engineering College campus in Sylhet city on Sunday night. The injured is Raihan Chowdhury, general secretary of Sylhet district unit of BCL. Witnesses said two rival BCL groups, equipped with firearms and other lethal weapons, locked horns on the campus around 11pm over the announcement of their new Sylhet Engineering College committee. Raihan, who was announcing the newly-formed committee, was injured during the clash. The two groups also vandalised three restaurants in the city’s Tilagarh. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (South) Jedan Al Musa confirmed the incident. Additional police forces were deployed in the area, accordin g to a news agency.
