World Statistics Day-2015 celebrated in Sylhet

41World Statistics Day-2015 was celebrated in the Sylhet district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to formulate social and economic plans for a sustainable development of the nation.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Better Date; Better Lives’.
Marking the day, Sylhet district statistical office (DSO) of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics under the Ministry of Planning chalked out a programme in cooperation with the district administration.
At 10 in the morning, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was held in the Conference Room of Sylhet DC Office.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shohidul Islam Chy addressed the meeting as the chief guest With Deputy Director District Statistical Office, Sylhet.
and  Join Director(CC) Divisional Statistical Office, Sylhet S.M.Anisuzzaman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by DD of Sylhet Islamic Foundation Forid uddin Ahmed, DD of Sylhet District information Office Julia Jasmin Mili,  Sadar Upazila Statistical Officer M. Kamal Uddin Addressing the occasion, the speakers stressed the need for strengthening the country’s statistics system considering its significance in formulating social and economic plans.
ADC Shohidul Islam Chy, in his speech, said the use of statistics would be increased in different sectors through observing the day for expediting the country’s social and economic development.
Earlier, a colorful rally led by ADC Shohidul Islam Chy was brought out from Independence Square at 9 am and ended at the Poura Park after parading the main roads of the town.
A large number of people including district and upazila level officials, upazila statistical officers, teachers, students, social workers and journalists of the print and electronic media took part in the programme.
