A fund of over £2.5 million to modernise 11 GP practices has been agreed by Tower Hamlets Council.
The money will fund extensive renovations to create additional space that will allow surgeries to offer extra services, treat more patients and provide more appointments.
The 11 practices which will be benefiting from the cash boost include: Aberfeldy Practice, Barkantine Health Centre, Blithehale Health Centre, Harford Health Centre, Island Health, Jubilee Street Practice, Limehouse Practice, Mission Practice, Spitalfields Practice, Wapping Group Practice and Whitechapel Health.
Mayor John Biggs said: “It is important to make sure we have modern and effective health facilities throughout the borough.
“This new funding will bring a wide range of benefits to both patients and staff, providing 21 additional consultation and treatment rooms and increasing the number of consultations to around 840 per day.”
The investment also includes upgrades to technology and medical equipment.
Additionally, just over £3 million was agreed to fit out new GP premises for the St Paul’s Way practice at William Cotton Place.
The development will provide purpose built accommodation for primary care and community health services.
