Ansar Ahmed Ullah :

President of UK Nirmul Committee and veteran community activist Dr B B Chaudhuri died of heart attack on 1 May in Dhaka at the age of eighty five.

The British Bengali community deeply mourns the death of one of its finest members Dr B B Chowdhury. For several decades he served the community as a popular doctor, community activist and campaigner. Passion and commitment for Bangladesh had been at the core of his thoughts and lifelong work.

Dr B B Chaudhuri, his full name Benu Bhushon Roy Chowdhury, was born in Chittagong and studied at Litton Medical school, Mymensingh and worked as a Captain in the Pakistan Army medical core. In the 1970s he settled in East London.

He was one of the founder members of Bangladesh Centre, Bengali International, Tower Hamlets Race Relations Council, Communist Party of Bangladesh UK, Udichi, Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and Praccyhobani amongst many others.

He was an exceptional progressive, humanist and philanthropic person but a true Bengali. Dr Chaudhuri’s charm, his witty chats and above all his dedication for well being of people, & untiring engagement for the benefits of Bengali settlers in London will be hugely missed.

Bangladesh Centre in London expressed their deep condolence at the death of the veteran community leader who was also a founding member of the centre.   On behalf of the council of Management of Bangladesh Centre Vice-Chairman Muhibur Rahman Muhib and General Secretary Md Mujibur Rahman prayed for the peace for the incorporeal soul of the deceased.
