Ashraf, who is also the ruling AL general secretary said, JSD had created the ground for Bangabandhu’s killing on August 15, 1975.
“JSD wanted to distort and destroy the spirit of the War of Liberation. It also created the ground of Bangabandhu’s killing. JSD leaders were hundred per cent hypocrats,” he said while speaking at a meeting of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University in the capital on Monday afternoon.
The Awami League general secretary explained the negative role of JSD Chhatra League during post-independence years in Bangladesh. “JSD was formed making it separated from Bangladesh Chhatra League in the name of scientific socialism. The then JSD leaders diverted the spirit of liberation war to a wrong direction.”
“The War of Liberation is a part of our history, but the JSD leaders and activists wanted to make the outcome of liberation war controversial. They tried to destroy the country before the return of Bangabandhu to Bangladesh,” he said.
Strongly criticising the JSD’s role, Ashraful Islam said the country could move forward if JSD had played positive role in the newly-created Bangladesh.
Ashraf said the leaders and activists of Chhatra League should know about this history.
Moderated by BCL president Md Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Zakir Hossain, the function was attended by Awami League organising secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former BCL general secretary Ishaque Ali Khan Panna and former president Liakat Sikder, among others.
