Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya today said the government will be providing the marooned people with food, water and medicines until the flood water recedes from the affected areas.
“The government has adequate relief materials. All concerned should be sincere so that no one suffers from want of food,” he said talking to flood-hit people in the bordering upazila of Roumari.
Local MP M. Ruhul Amin, Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Shah Kamal, Department of Disaster Management Director General Reaz Ahmed, Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Khan M. Nurul Amin and Roumari Upazila Parishad Chairman M. Majibur Rahman Bangabasi were present on the occasion, said an official release.
The minister urged the union council chairmen to remain alert so that none is deprived of relief materials.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inquires about the flood situation every day. She has directed the Awami League leaders and activists to stand by the flood affected people, he added.
The minister said all the families affected by river erosion would be given corrugated iron sheets and cash money. He asked the district administration to prepare a list of the affected people and send it to the ministry soon.
He assured the people of constructing an embankment to protect Roumari from the erosion by the Brahmaputra.
On the last day of his three-day visit to flood affected northern districts, the minister today distributed relief goods in Jamalpur too.
