Jagannath univ students rally for halls in Dhaka jail area

ghhbbThe students of Jagannath University staged demonstration on Wednesday for realising their various demands including construction of residential halls in the empty area of Dhaka Central Jail that has been shifted to Keraniganj recently.
Hundreds of students brought out procession and paraded the campus since 9:00am shouting different slogans in favour of their demands.
The students, particularly, stressed to solve their problem of accommodation as they find it hard nowadays as house owners are very much reluctant to rent houses to single people over the ongoing issue of extremism.
In this context, the students revived their years-long demand for which the university authorities had sent a letter to the home ministry over the permanent ownership of the land of Dhaka jail located at Nazimuddin Road.
New Age, however, has been capable of obtaining one of its copy in which the university authorities requested the ministry to take steps for handing over the ownership permanently of the land of Dhaka jail after its shifting.
In the letter, the authorities mentioned that the land would be used for building residential halls to solve the housing crsis of the students.
The letter was issued on March 23, 2014.
