Presisent Abdul Hamid is optimistic about his initiative of holding formal meeting with political parties to constitute a strong new Election Commission, Bangabhaban officials said.
The President on Sunday afternoon held his first meeting with a delegation of BNP led by it’s chairperson Khaleda Zia and hoped what they proposed would be helpful to constitute a strong Election Commission.
The President’s Press Secretary Md Zainal Abedin briefed the media about the hour-long meeting at the Bangabhaban’s Darbar Hall.
“The proposals presented by the BNP will be helpful to constitute a strong EC and the search committee,” Hamid added, according to Abedin.
However, after the talks with the president, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at the Naya Paltan headoffice that the meeting was positive and they are ‘hopeful.’
“We are happy about the meeting with the president. We have become optimistic,” Fakhrul said.
