Rati Agnihotri, husband booked for electricity theft

11The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on Thursday filed a police complaint against actor Rati Agnihotri and her husband Anil Virwani for alleged electricity theft amounting to Rs 46.97 lakh.



The actress and her architect husband had allegedly tampered electricity meter of their home in Sterling Sea Face Apartment near Nehru Planetarium in Worli area here, they said.



The alleged tampering was discovered by the vigilance team of the BEST after they visited the actor’s residence.



The Virwanis had allegedly not paid for 1,77,647 units of electricity by tampering the meter since April 4, 2013, a police official said.



An FIR was registered at Worli police station against Rati and her husband for the theft of Rs 48.96 lakhs worth electricity under section 135 of Indian Electricity Act, he added.



The police will soon be calling both Ms Agnihotri and Mr Virwani to the police station for inquiries and will be conducting investigations.
