Roqibul makes new record in MSC loss

unnamed (18)Roqibul Hassan made a new scoring record when he hammered 190 off 138 balls for Mohammedan Sporting Club in their Dhaka Premier League match against arch-rivals Abahani Limited in BKSP on Monday.

Roqibul’s innings, which failed to sail Mohammedan through as the side lost the game by 27 runs, is the highest ever individual score by a Bangladeshi in List-A cricket.

He broke the record of his Mohammedan team-mate Tamim Iqbal, who scored 157 runs against Kalabagan Krira Chakra in the same league this year.

Roqibul, who struck 17 fours and 10 sixes, also surpassed Australia Shane Watson to play highest ever innings in a limited-over match in Bangladesh.

Watson had made an unbeaten 185 runs against Bangladesh in a one-day international at Mirpur in 2011.

Despite the best effort of Roqibul, the only first-class triple centurion among the contemporary Bangladeshi players, Mohammedan could only score 339-9, replying to Abahani’s 366-5

The Australian’s innings was the highest in a list A match on Bangladesh soil before Raquibul’s whirlwind innings though the all-rounder still holds hitting highest 15 sixes in a match held in Bangladesh.
