Ansar Ahmed Ullah :: A new JASOD UK Committee was announced at a press conference, chaired by Shameem Ahmed & conducted by Md Junedur Rahman, held on Tuesday 29August 2017 at Makkah Grill restaurant, Whitechapel, East London.
Md Junedur Rahman introduced the new Convening Committee with Shameem Ahmed as its new President and himself as the General Secretary. Other members of the Convening Committee were announced as Syed Elahi Haq Shelu, Nizam Uddin, Shanoor Khan, Shamim Lodi, Kayes Boro Bhuiyan, Syed Chowdhury, Mamunur Rashid Khan, Shamsuz Zaman Fakhru, Khaled Azimuddin Jamal, Sabbir Chowdhury, Shah Enamur Rashid, Sohel Ahmed, Farid Ahmed, Suleman Ahmed, Golam Kibria Khan, Helal Ahmed, Kamran Ahmed, Nazrul Islam, Mustafijur Rahman, Hedayetul Islam Pintu, Abdul Jalil, Manzur Ahmed Chowdhury and Abul Haider Raju. Most of the members were present at the Press Conference.
The new Committee identified themselves as Ambia followers and separate from Inu led JASOD. They put down the spilt to their National Council held in March 2016 in Dhaka where Inu followers attempted to impose a committee. Shameem Ahmed alleged their followers were assaulted at the Council. Following that incident majority councillors announced a new executive committee with Sharif Nurul Ambia and Nazmul Haque Prodhan MP as its president and general secretary. Moin Uddin Khan Badal MP was appointed as the executive president of that committee.
This spilt within the Party obviously disappointed majority of JASOD activists both in Bangladesh and abroad. Many tried to unite the party but failed. The new UK Committee leadership poised the question should the Party be run by one man or by democratic joint leadership? They stated that since its inception in 1972 the Party has been running under joint leadership. Whenever somebody has attempted to take sole leadership party workers have abandoned that leader and moved forward.
The new president Shameem Ahmed answered questions put forward by journalists. He said the Party led by Sharif Nurul Ambia & Nazmul Haque Prodhan is following the tradition of joint leadership. JASOD is committed to democracy, equality & justice. UK JASOD will also give priority to issues concerning British Bengali community.
