Bangladeshi Cultural Night in Winnipeg, Canada

Canada-Bangladesh Association’s (CBA) annual cultural night was celebrated on 10 September 2017 with grand jubilation and joyful community participation.

The cultural show is considered a landmark performance of performers of Bangladesh origin in Winnipeg. The attendants rated the program as one of the best performances of the Bangladesh community artists in Winnipeg.

The stage program titled ‘Protyasha’ began at 3 pm at the West End Cultural Centre. Hosted by Faisal Shibley and Nafisa Chowdhury and performed by 40 performers, the cultural show drew more than 400 audiences.

The line-up of the five-hour cultural show comprised dance, mini-drama, music, comedic satire skit, fashion-show, shadow-dance, and audience performance.

The presentation entertained and enthralled audiences with display of glamour, color, excitement, and fun in a distinctively creative and innovative manner.

It was an outcome of month-long tireless effort of the cultural committee comprised of Md. Waliullah [Wali] (Cultural Secretary), Dr. Md. Manik Hossain and Dr. Mostraina Begum (Assistant Cultural Secretaries), and sub-committee Samilat Kaiser (Assistant Sports Secretary), Mishu Islam, and Mithila Binte Faruque.

The committee members expressed their determination to bring newer vibrancy into Manitoba’s multicultural communities through presenting Bangladeshi culture and heritage.

Terry Duguid, the Member of Parliament, spoke in the event as a guest of honor. Mrs. Nasreen Masood, the President of CBA, welcoming the guests and audience, made her introductory speech.

Mr  Khawja Latif in his brief speech addressed the need of a community place (Bangladesh Bhaban), and presented prospective future plan in this regard.

Dr. Helal Mohiuddin addressed the need of community support towards the Bangla School initiative that began five-years ago. Other executive members of the CBA are introduced before the audience.

Fundraising and sponsor liaising contributions of Mr. Rana SMA, (Treasurer), and Mr. Reza Quadir (Public Relations Secretary) of CBA were acknowledged. Mr. Sakib Rahman served as the volunteer coordinator to lead a group of 20 volunteers.

Assigned with in-program and post-program auditorium-based volunteering were Mr. Rabiul Islam Khan (Assistant General Secretary), Mr. Abdul Baten, Mr. Shameem Chowdhury (Asst. Sports Secretary), Qumrul Mithun and a number of audience-community members.

Other instrumental assistances came from Mrs. Sharmin Farzana Khan in stage planning and designing, and Labib Rana and Tariqul Hoque in photography, and Neelav Hossain in video recording.
