Brick Lane Jamme Masjid recently organised its Iftar party and discussion meeting. Distinguished community activists and leaders and others took part in the discussion meeting and Iftar Mahfil. President of the Masjid Trust Committee Alhahaj Sajjad Miah presided over the meeting and Secretary Helal Uddin Ali conducted it. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh for the UK and Ireland Najmul Quainine attended the event as Chief Guest. The special guests were MP for Bethnal Green and Bow Rushanara Ali MP, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs, Director General of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh General Shamim Afjal and Director of NTV Europe Mostofa Sarwar.
Khatib of the mosque Maolana Najrul Islam recited from the Quran in the beginning. On his speech, the Chief guest said that Brick Lane Jamme Masjid is a longstanding religious organisation run by the Bangladeshi Community and it’s a great achieving for them. He also emphasised that everyone should come forward to help this organisation and mentioned that he will urge the Bangladeshi Government for help to fund the mosque.
President of the trust thanked everyone for their attendance. On his speech he said that the mosque is an old listed building and hence the maintenance cost of the mosque is lot more than other ordinary buildings. He also said that this mosque is mainly run by the charity of the people who comes to mosque for pray and other donations. The mosque has Karje Hasana of 130,000 pounds and it also needs a large amount of money for the maintenance work of the building. He also mentioned that Brick Lane Jamme Masjid is taking part in live fund-raising appeal this year which will be held on 30th May Wednesday (14th Ramadan)on Sky channel 757 on NTV Europe. He urged everyone’s co-operation on mosque’s fund-raising appeal.
Other guests who took part in the discussion meeting included President of UK Awami League Sultan Mahmud Sharif, Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruq, Advocate Musharraf Hussain Kajol, Dr Khijir Hayat, Cllr A Mukit Chunu, Cllr, Humayun Kabir and others.
Members of the Masjid Management Committee who were present at the meeting included Treasurer Hamidur Rahman Chowdhury, Senior Vice-president Abdul Gafur Khalisdar, Hormuz Ali, Nurul Haque Lala Miah and others.
International Islamic scholar Dr Syed Irshad Ahmed Al Bukhari conducted the Munajat praying for the peace and relief for the tortured and deprived Muslims around the world.
