Man dies falling off rooftop while trying to avoid arrest in Sylhet

Sylhet Office : A man died falling off a rooftop of a building while being chased by police at Mejortila in Shah Paran area of the city early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Abdullah, 33, a listed criminal and accused in a drug-related case filed with Goainghat Police Station.

Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shah Paran Police Station, said a team of police conducted a drive at the house of Abdullah to arrest him in the night.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Abdullah jumped off the rooftop in a bid to avoid arrest and sustained severe injuries.

Later, he was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 5 am, the OC added.
