By Shofi Ahmed:
Shelet a word phonetically resembles Sylhet and the meaning is consistent found in the Bible. It appeared in Daniel 2:48 of Hebrew Bible. Then the king promoted [rebah] Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him [Shelet שלט] ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief [rab] administrator [cagan] over all the wise men [chakkiym] of Babylon.
All together it appeared seven times in the Bible. It’s a Hebrew word of primitive root with more than one meanings. Extensive research including talking to British Jewish media personalities reveal that shelet is a specific word used to give an affirming definition. In Bible, it is used to denote dominance such as ruler and firm solidities such as golden shield and shields. That in effect is a pretty fit for Sylhet as its name derived from the stone. Historically which has been a leading flashpoint with a firm footing till to date for various reasons.
In the context how Shelet appears in the Bible is very thought-provoking and intriguing. More so the analogical atmosphere of what indeed Sylhet means we can see it under the same cloud with that of Shelet. If we can chart the cheer magnitude of hallowed Sylhet eloquently we can see it appears onto the front of the Biblical Shelet grid.
To start with it’s a word of multiple-meaning used to define Allah SWT’s premium bounty that He bestowed upon Prophet Daniel. That has tremendous historic impacts on the East and the West alike. The name is thus synonymous in the West. He is hailed as the hero of the biblical Book of Daniel. Whats have made him such instrumental much of it can be found exploring the meaning of Shelet. It followed as he was made Shelet of Babylon.
Likewise, Sylhet is not a word standing with one single meaning. It evolved overtimes substantiating the primitive nature of this ancient land. That in common is being identified as Shila or stone as it called Shila-hatta in Sanskrit. Stone is commonly used to denote consummate solidity. Talking of substance the crux of which is fundamental, central. Interestingly the analogy of Shelet falls in the familiar bracket. A stone and a shield charistaritcally can be placed in the same domain.
This awesome consistency is purely an addition as we have already discovered the central, Biblical Shelet leading aspect of Sylhet in the Makkah-Sylhet soil relativity. Then the soil of Sylhet and that of Makkah was matched by Shah Jalal along with his 360 saintly multinational Sufi group. It was the country’s dominating historic event that helped the nation finding a new religion. Gradually whole Bangladesh becomes a Muslim country.
Makkah is the centre of the earth. Given that where it’s soil matches actually it’s another pivotal soil in nature. Otherwise, practically it won’t be a match with the hub. The hub is a nexus is to be followed by surrounding bodies. Nonetheless, Makkah-Sylhet soil was clearly a match tested by Chasnipir who was indeed an earth scientist. Hence the group, Shah Jalal bunch settled in Sylhet for good. This was a historic event. The leading aspect of Sylhet continues to shine. The modern day Sylhet is regarded as the spiritual capital of Bangladesh.
Daniel is admired in Judaism, Christianity and to some extent in Islam too. According to islamqa.info more than one of the scholars of history and biography have stated that Daniyal was one of the Israelite Prophets. He lived at the time of Nebuchadnezzar who destroyed Bayt al-Maqdis (the Temple in Jerusalem), killed many of the Children of Israel, and burned the Torah.
They said that he foretold the coming of our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Daniyal (peace be upon him) mentioned Muhammad the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) by name, and said: “Arrows will be departing from bows and arrows will be stained with blood at your command, O Muhammad.”
This is a clear, unambiguous statement. He further mentioned two cases in which Daniyal foretold the coming of the Messiah and of our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon them both), then he said: This is a prophecy in which Daniyal foretold the coming of the Messiah and the coming of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), in which there was a detailed description of Muhammad and his ummah. The Muslims read it when they conquered Iraq, as was mentioned by various scholars, including Abu’l-‘Aaliyah.
