Atia Mahal operation: 3 placed on 5-day remand

Sylhet Office : A court here on Thursday placed three accused on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-terrorism Act over the operation at a militant den, Atia Mahal, at Shibbari in South Surma in 2017.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order after investigation officer of the case and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Abdul Hossain produced them before his court seeking remand for them.

Those remanded are Arzina Begum, sister of suspected militant Marzina who was killed in the operation at the militant den, Arzina’s husband Jashim Uddin and Mohammad Hasan of Naikkhonchhari.

The trio, now in jail in another case, was shown arrested in the anti-terrorism case on Wednesday.

Seven people were killed during the Army-led operation, ‘Operation Twilight’, that began on March 25 although police launched the raid on the militant den early hours of March 24 last.

Army Para Commandos found the bodies of four militants, including that of a female one, at the militant den on March 27.
