Dhaka, May 12 : A Dhaka court on Sunday (May 12) has fixed June 26 as the new date for 66th time to submit the probe report in journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Islam passed the order as the investigation officer and Assistant director of Rapid Action Battalion Mohiuddin Ahmed failed to submit the probe report today.
As per the review of the case statement, the submission date for probe report in the case deferred 65 times in the last seven years and one month.
There was no visible progress of the case seen in the investigation so far.
On February 11 in 2012, private TV channel Masranga Television’s journalist Golam Mustafa Sarwar alias Sagar Sarwar and his wife Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla Meherun Nahar alias Meherun Runi were murdered at their rented apartment in city’s West Rajabazar area.
Later on February 12, Nowsher Ali Noman, brother of Runi, filed muder case with Sher-e Banla Nagar Police station.
On April 18 in 2012, the high Court ordered RAB to investigate and submit report in the case as police and detectives failed to show any progress.
A total of eight people were arrested in connection with the sensational killing that threw shockwaves across the country. Of them, Polash Rudra Paul, security guard of the house, and Tabvir Rahman were released on bail.
The elite force quizzed 125 people so far in this connection.
