The new declaration over moon sighting of the Arabic Shawwal month came after an emergency meeting at the Islamic Foundation conference room at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Tuesday evening.

Earlier, at around 9:00pm, Sheikh Md Abdullah announced that the first moon of the Shawwal month was not sighted and the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday.However, the moon sighting committee differed from their earlier decision in a news briefing around 11:15pm Tuesday night after an emergency meeting.

The emergency meeting was held after getting the moon sighting information from the offices of the deputy commissioners of Kurgram and Lalmonirhat districts.

The state minister said a good number of people from Kurgram, Lalmonirhat and Patgram have reported that they saw the moon of Shawwal month of 1440 Hizri.
