Sylhet airport to have direct intl flights from April: Minister

Habiganj Correspondent : State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Advocate Mahbub Ali on Saturday said that direct international flights will be introduced at the city’s Osmani International Airport from April next.

He made the disclosure at a discussion after laying the foundation stone of devotee home at the historic Bithongol ‘akhra’ of Baniachong upazila in the afternoon.
The State Minister further said that a mega project is being undertaken for the flourishing of the country’s tourism industry.

“The Tourism Ministry will have its own transport on Dhaka-Sylhet highway so that the people outside can move easily. Besides, there would be appropriate accommodation in the tourist centres of Habiganj to ensure safe stay of the tourists,” he added.

Later, the State Minister visited different tourist centres including the traditional Sagordighi in Baniachong.

Advocate Md Abdul Majid Khan MP, Md Mohibul Haq, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Ramchandra Das, Chairman of Parjatan Corporation, Abul Kashem Chowdhury, Baniachong Upazila Chairman, and Swami Bedmoyanondo Moharaj, Principal of Ramkrishna Mission were also present at the discussion.

Sukumar Mohonto, chief of the ‘akhra’, presided over the programme.
