
Dhaka, Oct 28 : A court here on Monday placed another student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) on a four-day remand in Abrar Fahad murder case.
SM Mahmud Setu, a student of batch-14 of Buet and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall, completed BSC from the Department of Chemical Engineering in April. He was arrested from Bangla Motor area in the capital on Sunday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Jashim passed the order when investigation officer of Detective Branch (DB) Md Wahiduzzaman sought a seven-day remand to interrogate him.
On Sunday Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP, said Mahmud’s name was not included in the FIR. “We arrested him after investigation found his involvement in the murder.”
Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Buet, was beaten to death reportedly by Buet unit’s Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
He was found dead on the staircase of the hall in the early hours of October 7, after he was taken to the room No-2011 around 8pm on October 6 and beaten up mercilessly.
So far, a total of 22 people have been arrested in the case and among them eight already confessed before the court to their involvement in the murder.
