BCL leader’s two bodyguards killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

Two bodyguards of a local Chhatra League leader were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kamalnagar area near bypass road of Satkhira town early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Dwip, 25, son of Moinul Islam of Munjitpur village in Satkhira town and Saiful Islam, 30, of Saihati village in Ashashuni upazila.

Both of the deceased were known as bodyguard of district BCL general secretary Syed Sadikur Rahman.Md Mostafizur Rahman, superintendent of police, said they arrested Dwip and Saiful on Friday over snatching of Tk 26 lakh from a Bkash company agent in Kaliganj upazila.

Police took the duo to recover the money. When they reached Kamalnagar area around 3am, associates of the criminals open fired to snatch them, leading to a gunfight, the SP added.

They were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said.

Two firearms, four bullets, two knives and a motorbike were recovered from the spot.
