Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has agreed to take over the charge of the chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) next year.
“I’m ready to take over the charge of the chair of the CVF if everybody endorses this,” the foreign minister quoted the premier as saying. The CVF was founded by the Maldives government before the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which sought to increase awareness of countries considered vulnerable.
Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine is the current chair of the CVF, a global partnership of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of global warming.
The forum addresses the negative effects of global warming as a result of heightened socio-economic and environmental vulnerabilities.
