3 government employees among 4 detained from Sunamganj Officers’ Club

The detainees are identified as Nikhil Chandra Purkayestha, 46, assistant officer (Tahsildar) of Raniganj Union, son of Nalin Kanto Purkyestha, of New Town city, Shaymal Das, 48, deed writer, son of late Mahendra Das, from Paindra village of Sadar upazila, Abul Kashem, 48, extension officer of Sunamganj Bangladesh Institute of Small Industry and Cottage (BISIC), son of late Abu Taher, from Jagdal village of Dirai upazila and Nurul Islam Talukder, 44, chief instructor of Brahmanbaria Technical School and College, son of Ahmed Hossain, from Nalchity upazila in Jhalakathi.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers conducted the drive and detained them when they were engaged in playing casino openly at the area.Law enforcers also seized Tk 30,000, gambling cards, cigarettes of different brands, bottles of provocative drinks, matches and other items there during the raid.

The mobile court led by Samrat Hossain, assistant commissioner (AC), sentenced them to 30 days jail and sent to prison.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the matter, adding that they will be sent to district jail today.
