District Awami League Joint Secretary and Chhatak municipal Mayor Abul Kalam Chowdhury’s group arranged a protest meeting at the Mondolibhog party office in the town welcoming the cleansing drive started by Prime Minister in her own party, protesting derogatory remarks over late Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad and against corruption and illegal grabbers.

Immediately after this announcement, district Awami League Vice President Muhibur Rahman Manik MP’s group announced a counter programme on the same day at the Montu Babu public play ground in the town.As a result, tension was prevailing in the town due to announcement of the conflicting programs by the two groups.

Chhatak Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Golam Kabir as a result declared Section 144 at the meeting venue and surrounding areas from Sunday morning to evening to keep the overall situation of the town normal.
