Bangladesh Awami Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League have declared to stage demonstrations across the country protesting the vandalization
Police on Sunday arrested two people over the vandalization of the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia, confirmed a source from police seeking anonymity.
The miscreants were identified through CCTV footage, said the source adding that police will disclose details of the arrest in a media briefing on Sunday afternoon.
In the early hours of Saturday, miscreants smashed the under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu at the five roads’ intersection in Kushtia town.
The face and hands of the sculpture were vandalized by two people within a minute begining at 2:16am on Saturday, shows the CCTV footages.
The incident took place amid protests by various Islamist organizations across the country over the construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture.
Among other members of the police department Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) of Kushtia AKM Nahidul Islam and ushtia Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Tanvir Arafat have visited the incident spot on Saturday night.
The ADIG said to journalists: “Miscreants attacked our heart by vandalizing Bangabandhu’s sculpture. None of them will be spared. Severe actions will be taken against them in accordance with the law.”

The youth front said they will take positions on the streets in all the districts, metropolitan cities, upazilas, and municipality areas throughout the day on Sunday, says a press release.
