Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in bordering districts, the country recorded 38 more single-day deaths and 1,676 new cases in the last 24 hours.
With these additions, the death toll increased to 12,839 and the infection tally reached 8,10,990.
Meanwhile, the fatality rate was recorded at 1.58% and the positivity rate stood at 10.73% in the preceding 24 hours.
The country’s maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
India on Sunday recorded 114,460 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare. With this, the country’s total infection tally reached 28,809,339 and its death toll rose to 346,759 after 2,677 people lost their lives due to the virus in 24 hours.
Covid-19 has claimed 3,737,187 lives worldwide and infected 173,750,602 people so far, according to Worldometer data.
