AL candidate quits Hatia municipal polls

Zia Ali Mubarak, Awami League backed-mayoral candidate for Noakhali’s Hatia municipality, has quit the polls bringing allegation of irregularities.

He disclosed the decision at a press conference held at his residence on Monday morning.

Zia alleged that supporters of rival candidate blocked the houses of his leaders and activists and confined them since Sunday night.

They also obstructed many of his supporters from going to vote centers this morning.

No steps have been taken even though the authorities concerned were informed about the matter, said Zia.

He boycotted the election to avert any untoward situation, he added.

Among others, Burir Char union AL president Waji Ullah and other local leaders were present at the press conference.
