ADC Laboni laid to rest at father’s home

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP)’s additional deputy commissioner (Detective Branch) Khondker Laboni Akter, who had committed suicide in Magura, has been laid to rest at her father’s home.

The 36-year-old police official was buried at her family graveyard at 10:45pm on Thursday (July 21) at village Boralidaha after her first namaj-e-janaza at her maternal grand father’s house at village Sarongodia under Sreepur Sadar union at 9:00pm and second namaj-e-janaza at her own house at village Boralidaha under Kadirpara union at about 10:45pm.

Earlier at about 7:30pm, the body of Khondker Laboni Akter was brought at her maternal grand-father’s house in village Sarongodia after postmortem at Magura 250-bed Sadar Hospital morgue.

Police said she had committed suicide being hanged with a ceiling fan inside a room of the house sometime at Wednesday night.

After several hours, Laboni’s former bodyguard constable Mahmudul Hasan’s bullet-ridden body was found on the rooftop of Magura Sadar Police Lines Barrack.

When Laboni’s dead body reached at village Sarongodia on Thursday evening, relatives had burst into tears. Following the namaj-e-janaza, Laboni’s father retired school teacher Khondker Shafiqul Azam told newsmen, “I gave much effort to establish my daughter in her life. Now, I have become older. I don’t know how long I will remain alive. Now, I’m thinking how I would establish my two grand-daughters (Laboni’s two daughters–one is four-year old and another eight-year old).”

Narrating the reasons behind the death of his daughter, Khondker Shafiqul Azam told newsmen that there were very strained relations between Laboni and her husband for some time. “Because of it, there were trying to avoid each other. She committed suicide following quarrels with her husband due to unhappy conjugal relations between them. She also tried to commit suicide twice earlier. One is 15 days ago and the other a week ago.”

On Wednesday night, the body of KMP’s ADC (DB) Khondker Laboni Akter was recovered from her maternal grandfather’s house at village Sarongodia in Sreepur union under Sreepur upazila in Magura district. She was an officer of the 30th batch of BCS Police cadre. She went to her grand father’s village home in Magura from her workplace in Khulna on a 7-day leave on July 17 last.
