Vorer Pata editor Ertaza sent to jail in fraud case

A Dhaka court on Friday sent Kazi Ertaza Hassan, editor and publisher of the Daily Vorer Pata and The Daily People’s Time, to jail after end of his one-day remand in a fraud case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahammed passed the order, scrapping a bail plea of the accused.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain on November 2 had placed Ertaza on one-day remand as Investigation Officer (IO) and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Sub-Inspector Md Mehedi Hasan produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on two-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, the accused in collusion with corrupted employees of different sub-registrar’s offices, used to registrar lands with fake documents.

A team of the PBI arrested Ertaza from the capital’s Gulshan area on the night of November 1.
