Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold its 7th divisional mass rally in Sylhet city on Saturday (November 19, 2022) afternoon.
The divisional mass rally will be held at the Government Aleya Madrasa ground in the city’s Chowhatta area on Saturday. All necessary preparations have been taken to make the mass rally a success.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, other central leaders of the party, Sylhet District and City BNP leaders will address the divisional mass rally. Many of them have already arrived at Sylhet city, reports our correspondent from Sylhet.
Sylhet district BNP president Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury has said inhabitants of Sylhet are ready. They arrived at Government Aleya Madrasa ground two days ago to join the mass rally.
Sylhet city has turned into a city of procession ahead of Saturday’s mass rally. Party leaders, workers and supporters from different districts under Sylhet division have been thronging the Government Aleya Madrasa ground from different districts of Sylhet division.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet city BNP workers have distributed leaflets among the city dwellers from morning to night. They have hung banners and festoons and pasted posters on the walls, while archways have also been erected.
Six sub-committees are working round the clock to organise the rally a success.
BNP has been holding rallies in the divisional cities demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, protesting the price hike of essentials and fuel oils, seeking handing over power to a neutral caretaker government. BNP also held divisional rallies in Chattogram, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rangpur, Barishal and Faridpur.
Centering the grand rally, police have taken necessary security measures in the entire Sylhet city. Apart from uniformed policemen, plain-clothed policemen are working in the entire city. Police have set up 19 checkposts at the entry points of the city centering the mass rally.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Commissioner Nisharul Arif told stated it to jouranlsists on Friday afternoon.
He said the SMP has taken all necessary preparations centering the grand rally. More than 900 policemen would remain deployed in Sylhet city on Saturday.
Besides, there will be four mobile teams led by four magistrates.
Sylhet City Police’s deputy commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh said additional police personnel have been deployed at different points in Sylhet city to avert any untoward incident.
