Md Shahabuddin Chuppu, a retired District and Sessions Judge and former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), is going to become the country’s next president.
An Awami League delegation, led by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also the the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, submitted the nomination to the Election Commission on Sunday morning.
The nomination paper can be submitted to the Election Commission today from 10am-4pm. But it is clear that the ruling party’s nominee will be the next president of the country.
On February 19, the 22 Presidential election will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) complex.
Incumbent President Abdul Hamid assumed office on April 24, 2018. Accordingly, his five-year tenure will end on April 23, 2023.
According to the constitution, a new president has to be elected within 90 to 60 days prior to the end of the incumbent president’s tenure.
