‘Boat’ leading in Sylhet, Rajshahi city elections

Voting in Sylhet and Rajshahi City Corporations ended on Wednesday (June 21, 2023).

Earlier, voting began at 8:00am through the electronic voting machines (EVMs). The Election Commission (EC) monitored the voting at all centres on closed-circuit television cameras.

The unofficial results from 90, out of 190 centres, in Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) have been declared. The results show that Awami League nominated candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury with ‘Boat’ symbol received 54,610 votes, while his nearest rival Jatiya Party (JaPa) candidate Nazrul Islam Babul with ‘Plough’ symbol bagged 20,588 votes.

On the other hand, unofficial results from 56, out of 155 centres, in Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) have been declared. The results show that Awami League nominated candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton with ‘Boat’ symbol is leading receiving 53,991 votes, while his nearest rival Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Murshid Alam (Hand Fan) got 4,236 votes.
