Two held with 16-kg hemp in Sunamganj

Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 16 kilograms of hemp from Shantiganj upazila in Sunamganj district on Wednesday morning.

The arrested are Md Siddiqur Rahman, a resident of New Poinda village, and Anowar Hossain, 25, of Banipur village under Sunamganj Sadar upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police led by Aftabuzzaman Regan and Safiul Islam sub-inspectors of Shantiganj Police Station, conducted a raid on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway and detained two motorcycle riders. Later, following their instruction, the team challenged a private car and recovered the hemp, however, the driver managed to flee the scene, said Khaled Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The arrested were sent to court after filling a case with the police station under Narcotics Control Act, the OC added.
