State Minister of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Saturday said a meeting to discuss the restoration of mobile internet 4G services will be held on Sunday.
The state minister shared the information while addressing an event held at Agargaon in the capital marking 54th birthday of Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
He said the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is set to hold a meeting with the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) at 9AM on Sunday over the restoration of mobile internet services.
If the meeting is satisfactory, the 4G network will be restored by Sunday or Monday.
He said the internet service was not intentionally shut down it was disrupted due to the burning of three data centers and hundreds of kilometers of cables.
Palak claimed that the disruption was a result of planned sabotage which caused a loss of Tk 500 crore in the telecom sector alone and a total loss of hundreds of crores of taka.
The state minister said attacks were carried out in at least 17 places in the Postal Department.
Analysis of mobile operators’ data on July 18 showed that 50,000 to 100,000 new SIMs were used in Uttara, Rampura, Mohammadpur, Jatrabari in Dhaka and Gazipur, he added.
