Now the water, which has reached near the danger level, is being released through these 16 gates.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) confirmed the matter this morning.
ATM Abduzzaher, manager of Kaptai Hydropower Plant, said it was scheduled to open the gates on Saturday night, bur delayed. Later, as the water was flowing above the danger level, the 16 gates were opened at 8:10AM.
The water level of Kaptai Lake was 108 feet Mean Sea Level (MSL) at around 3PM on Saturday. The full water capacity of Kaptai Lake is 109 feet MSL.
The release of water through the spillway gates is expected to discharge approximately 9,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water. Depending on how the situation evolves, the plant may increase the gate openings to manage the lake’s water levels effectively.
