Battery-run rickshaw drivers again stop traffic

Again drivers of battery-operated rickshaws are staging demonstrations on some city roads at Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Press Club, Jatrabari, Gabtoli, Gulistan, High Court, causing immense sufferings to city dwellers and commuters.

Around 11:30AM on Sunday, they started gathering at different points in the capital under the banner of Rickshaw-Van-Easy Bike Sramik Union to press home their 12-point demands, which forced the vehicles to standstill.

The drivers said they are from Kamrangirchar, Section, Hazaribagh areas.

Law enforcement agencies are trying to negotiate with the drivers to remove them from the streets.

Rickshaw driver workers said that they will continue the movement until their demands are met.

Additional number of police and army personnel have been deployed in the areas.
