Several were injured after the students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College attacked Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) at Demra as part of their ‘Mega Monday’ programme.
In retaliation, the students of DMRC also attacked those. Then Demra area turned into battlefiled.
Meanwhile, considering the situation, Dhaka University authorities postponed Tuesday’s fourth year exam of seven colleges saying that ‘unavoidable reason’.
To take the situation under control, law enforcement agencies lobbed tear-gas shells.
Additional police were deployed in front of Mollah College.
The students of three colleges clashed several times from 12noon on Monday which left many students wounded.
Since 10AM, Suhrawardy College students from different parts gathered in front of the campus. Later they went to Kabi Nazrul Government College. Around 11AM, both the college students attacked DMRC students and made vandalism there.
According to the sources, a student named Abhijit Halder was brought to the emergency department of the DNMCH on November 16. After examinations, he was diagnosed with dengue fever and admitted to the medicine department, where he received the necessary treatment.
As his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) after obtaining permission from his guardian and consulting with specialists. Abhijit died on November 18.
Students of DMRC held protest programmes from Wednesday (November 20) protesting the death alleging ‘wrong treatment’. At one point on Thursday (November 21), students of Kabi Nazrul College and Govt Shaheed Suhrawardy College under the banner of Chhatra Dal attacked the protestors.
