Thirteen-year-old Chaiti Rani Deb, a physically challenged student from Bhunbiri Union of Sreemangal upazila in Moulvibazar, is set to represent Bangladesh at the Asian Youth Para Games 2025 in Dubai, proving that courage knows no limits.
Standing at just 3 feet 7 inches, Chaiti was born with a physical disability but has never let it define her. A Class VIII student at Bhunbiri Dashrath High School and College, she is the youngest daughter of farmer Satya Deb. Today, she stands as a symbol of resilience and hope for her family, school, and community.
Selected by the National Paralympic Committee of Bangladesh, Chaiti will compete in the 100-meter sprint at the Para Athletics event during the Games, which will be held in Dubai from December 7 to 14. Around 1,500 young para-athletes from 45 countries are expected to participate under the theme “Born to Rise.”
Chaiti’s journey began with Sports for Hope and Independence (SHI), an organization promoting inclusive sports in rural areas. Initially hesitant, Chaiti and her family gradually embraced her talent under the guidance of coach Dev Prasad Shil.
“She trained with unmatched dedication,” said Shil. “She became a national champion in the 100m at the Bangladesh Para Olympics—and now she’s ready to represent our country abroad.”
Chaiti will join a pre-competition training camp in Dhaka over the next month to fine-tune her performance.
Sharmin Farhana Chowdhury, founder of SHI, recalled Chaiti’s early days: “When we first met her, there was little confidence—neither in her nor from her family. But over three years of consistent training, we saw an extraordinary change.”
She stressed the need for societal support: “Girls with disabilities face double barriers. If families and communities stand behind them, they can achieve greatness. Chaiti may not win a medal–but her presence in Dubai will inspire a generation of girls to dream without limits.”
As Chaiti prepares to step onto the international track, her story transcends sport. It is a powerful reminder that with opportunity, encouragement, and inclusion, every child, regardless of ability, can rise.
Bangladesh now celebrates one of its youngest champions, not just for what she may win, but for what she already represents: hope, perseverance, and the unstoppable power of belief.
