Aug 24: A views exchange meeting of trade body leaders and senior bankers with the General Manager of the Bangladesh Bank, Sylhet region, was held at the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hall room on Wednesday afternoon.
Addressing the meeting, Bangladesh Bank GM Md Sirajul Islam said extensive drives would be launched soon in Sylhet region by the Bangladesh Bank against fake notes as there would be huge monetary transactions ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The GM also assured the businesses and traders of taking possible measures as they raised issues like arranging receipt of treasury chalan at the Agrani Bank branch at the Tamabil LC station, receiving travel tax at all branches of Sonali Bank and cutting charges for issuing account statements by different banks.
SCCI President Khandaker Shiper Ahmed sought a cut in bank interest rates, strengthening cyber security for banks, free distribution of fake note detection equipment etc. Issues like introduction of the RTGS facility at all banks and easing the process for sale and purchase of Sanchaypatro were also raised.
SCCI Vice-president Md. Emdad Hossain, directors Ziaul Haque, Falah Uddin Ahmed, Mujibur Rahman Mintu and others also spoke.
Janata Bank General Manager Riazul Islam, Islami Bank SVP Farid Ahmed, AB Bank SVP Md. Abdus Salam, Dutch-Bangla Bank’s Chowdhury Abul Kalam also addressed the meeting.
