A district court has granted three-day remand to alleged source of RAB in connection with the killing of a schoolboy after abduction in Sylhet.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court 1 Judge Shahedul Karim granted the remand after police produced the RAB source Geda Mia before the court with a 10-day remand plea on Monday afternoon.
Police also sought seven-day remand for detained Olama League General Secretary Abdur Rakib. The hearing on the petition was under way when the story was filed.
Meanwhile, locals staged a human chain in Kumarpar area on Monday morning, demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of schoolboy Sayeed.
Police recovered the decomposed body of Abu Sayeed, a class IV student of a primary school, from constable Ebadur’s house no 37 in Kumarpara Jharnarpar residential area in Sylhet on Saturday night.
Police detained constable Ebadur, district Olama League Secretary Abdur Rakib and RAB police source Geda Mia for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder.
Later on Sunday, the arrested police constable Ebadur Rahman gave confessional statement before a Sylhet court, admitting his involvement in the schoolboy abduction and killing.
In the court, Ebadur said he and Geda first wanted to free the boy after getting ransom. But, later, they changed their minds in fear that if the boy discloses their identification and killed him on Thursday.
Ebadur and Geda once used to live near the house of Sayeed who called them uncle (mama).
The body of Sayeed was recovered from the house of police constable Ebadur Raman at Kumarpara in the city on Saturday night, five days after his abduction.
Sayeed, who was a class IV student of a primary school, was abducted on March 10.
The abductors first demanded Tk5 lakh and then Tk2 lakh ransom. Later, Sayeed’s father Abdul Matin filed a general diary with Kotwali police station on March 11.
